Power Banks

Buying guide

Buying guide: power banks

A power bank is only as useful as its capacity, output and size allow. Choosing one comes down to how many charges you need and how much weight you are happy to carry.

What to look for

Capacity (mAh)

5,000mAh gives roughly one phone charge, 10,000mAh about two, and 20,000mAh three or more. Real-world output is typically 60–70% of the rated figure due to conversion losses.

Output speed

A USB-C PD output of 20W or more fast-charges modern phones; 45W+ is needed if you want to top up a laptop.

Built-in cables & displays

Integrated cables mean one less thing to forget, and a digital display shows exactly how much charge is left.

Flying with it

Airlines allow power banks under 100Wh (about 27,000mAh) in carry-on luggage only — never in checked bags.

Best for: Travellers, festival-goers, heavy phone users and anyone whose battery doesn't last until evening.
